Welcome to my blog! I have started a blog to share information
on why we do what we do, to discuss the healing properties of the ingredients, and
to provide deeper insight into our products.
This month I will be taking an in-depth look at our Pro-Ageing
Range, which really means “let’s age like pros”. I have just turned 51 and
I see ageing as a beautiful self-portrait, fine lines included. However, the
older we get, the more we need to invest in self-care and love because our
skins increasingly require more support as we age. For this reason, I have created this powerful anti-ageing
range although it’s suitable for anybody at any age who wants to nourish their
skin.
The Pro-Ageing Range includes a facial day/night cream, a
facial serum, a spray-on cream, and a neck, chest and arm lotion. These
products cover all the areas that need to be moisturised, including the arms
and most of all, the neck and decolletage area.
Let’s take a deeper look at each of the products in the
Pro-Ageing Range:
Marula, HA and Collagen Facial Cream
Ingredients: hyaluronic acid, collagen powder, rose essential oil, marula oil, vegetable glycerine, natural cream base (potassium sorbate, beeswax, emulsifying wax, jojoba oil and grapeseed oil).
Hyaluronic acid is a very special ingredient that is produced by our bodies to lubricate our bodies. It plays an important role in skin health, bone strength and tissue repair (wound healing). Its main function is to retain water in our skin and cells. When your skin is properly hydrated, it appears smoother with fewer fine lines. When hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin it reduces redness, dermatitis and wrinkles, retains moisture and helps the skin cells to regenerate. It’s a super moisturiser for your skin cells.
Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in our bodies and is the main component of connective tissue. It is found in our bones, eyes, teeth, ligaments and blood vessels. Applying collagen to your skin topically helps to promote skin elasticity, stimulates the production of your own collagen in the dermis and firms your skin. The goal is to help the skin produce collagen and strengthen the existing collagen, which is the building block of the tissue structure. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, the building blocks get weaker and the skin starts losing elasticity. This results in sagging skin and fine lines.
Marula oil is the magic ingredient. Applying marula oil to the skin prevents the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. Marula oil holds massive anti-ageing properties and helps the skin stay firm and supple. It is one of the best oils to apply to dry skin and reduces redness while hydrating and moisturising dry flaky skin.
Rose essential oil is produced from one of my favourite flowers, the rose. I have plenty of rose bushes in my garden and we harvest and use the petals in our infused rose oil, rosewater, body scrubs and facial products. I specifically plant highly perfumed red roses for their scent and colour. Rose essential oil benefits are vast – it’s wonderful for ageing and dry skin conditions and helps with depression and anxiety. When applying the facial cream, the rose’s aroma will help you to relax and ease into the day or night. Rose oil is an anti-inflammatory which helps with skin tone and skin texture. With potent antioxidant properties, it promotes a brighter skin appearance. Rose essential oil is phenomenal for your overall well-being.
Our natural cream base has been in use in our products for 10 years. Even before my flagship store in Dullstroom existed, I use to make skin care products in my spare time. I set out to get the best quality product and it took me years to perfect this one. The majority of my ingredients are sourced from a highly reputable organic supplier.
Since the skin is a highly absorbent organ, I do my best to avoid using anything that is toxic to the body. From this perspective, it’s important for me to explain some of the ingredients in the natural cream base because I want you to know what you’re putting on your skin. The ingredients in the natural cream base are potassium sorbate, beeswax, emulsifying wax, jojoba oil and grapeseed oil, which makes it one of the purest products on the market.
Potassium sorbate is a mould inhibitor or preservative. It can be found in body care products and our daily foods to extend the product’s shelf life. It is a healthier alternative to harmful parabens.
Jojoba oil is rich in antioxidants which help the skin build a barrier. It is loaded with vitamins A, E and D, plus Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids. It also contains chromium, copper and zinc which are good for the body. Its anti-inflammatory properties help with skin irritations and redness. Jojoba oil is suitable for all skin types, it reduces fine lines and wrinkles, plumps up the skin and heals scars and stretchmarks.
Grapeseed oil is one of my favourites because it is light and is absorbed very quickly. Its anti-inflammatory properties ease redness and swelling of the skin. Grapeseed oil seals in moisture, hydrating and nourishing it while at the same time providing a barrier against sun damage.
Emulsifying wax is a vegetable wax that binds water and oil. This is used to make a smooth cream base or emulsion.
Beeswax is the king of natural ingredients. It makes a pre-wax out of the oils so that they come out as smooth as butter. I obtain my wax from a third-generation bee farmer, so my wax comes from a person who is truly passionate about bees. Sometimes the wax differs in colour – from the deepest green to golden yellow – and it’s all to do with where the hives have been. I never use white wax pellets, which have often been cleaned, bleached and pressed into pellets. Only the rawest, finest quality beeswax from my bee whisperer will do for my products. Beeswax is excellent for your skin in that it helps to hydrate, regenerate and reconstruct skin cells, leaving your skin looking nourished. Beeswax is also very rich in vitamin A which is a natural exfoliator.
Vegetable glycerine leads to better skin health by promoting wound healing, protecting against skin infections and soothing skin irritations. It moisturises the skin and helps with anti-ageing.
Now you have the low-down on all the ingredients of the cream, many of which are used throughout our product ranges. I have intentionally put all these wonderful oils and ingredients together so that the user gets the best out of our products.
I personally use the Marula, HA and Collagen Facial Cream and love it. It’s a day and night cream and can be used on the eye area too. I have noticed that when used in conjunction with the Hyaluronic Acid, Rosehip and Collagen Serum, my eyelids have visibly lifted.
Hyaluronic Acid, Rosehip & Collagen Serum
My skin routine starts out with the light, gel-like Hyaluronic Acid, Rosehip & Collagen Serum which penetrates easily and makes a light coating on the skin. Once it has dried, I apply the facial cream (it is highly concentrated so only a small amount is required). Your skin will remain moisturised all day long. As an added benefit, it’s easier to apply makeup and your makeup will last longer.
A 50ml bottle of Hyaluronic Acid, Rosehip & Collagen Serum lasts for approximately 45 days and the Marula, HA and Collagen Facial Cream (125ml) lasts around 3 months when applied twice daily. Both these products will dramatically improve the moisture level of your skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and leave your face looking visibly smoother and more youthful by the day. These products are an indispensable part of my daily life.
Marula, Collagen & Hyaluronic Acid Overnight Serum
It’s really important to look after the often-neglected neck, chest and hand areas. The neck especially is one of those areas that we can’t hide. It makes no sense to have a beautiful, well-maintained face accompanied by a saggy turkey neck, tired decolletage and wrinkly hands.
Fortunately, the Marula, Collagen & Hyaluronic Acid Overnight Serum can remedy this. I have formulated this product to be easily absorbed with plenty of healing ingredients to plump, moisturise and improve your overall appearance. In no time your skin will look younger, have improved elasticity and be happily hydrated.
Wheatgerm & Collagen Spray-On Cream
Finally, the spray-on cream, which works well for men too since the application is quick and easy. It includes wheatgerm oil – one of my favourite products. Rich in colour and fantastic for locking in moisture, this product is ideal for dry skin. It is loaded with vitamin E, which helps with skin damage, ageing and improving skin texture. This light, moisturising spray-on cream is easy to use and with its highly concentrated formula, very little is required to make it last for 8+ hours. I often travel with it when I have a busy schedule ahead and I am pressed for time.
The four products in the Pro-Ageing Range complement one another and help to slow the ageing process with their super hydrating properties, while at the same time healing the skin cells at a deep level.
